Prof. John Morrissey has been awarded a National Library of Australia Fellowship 2025, becoming the first Irish academic to win one of Australia’s highest research awards. The fellowship was awarded for a project on the political ecology writings of Judith Wright, and will be based at the National Library of Australia in Canberra. The project aims to uncover from Wright’s archives how she became critically informed of the overlapping threats to the planet’s biosphere, propelling her to lead prolonged environmental campaigns. It seeks to illuminate how her activism and writing envisaged the emerging trajectory of environmental crises in the Anthropocene, and how it considered the vital challenge of communicating a pathway to a more ecologically responsible world.
