We have built a strong reputation for excellence in research and teaching, with productive national and international collaborative networks.  Community and civic engagement at the local, national and international levels is central to our School ethos. Engagement through community participation and partnerships, research collaborations and community outreach activities, extends our impacts beyond the university.

The School encompasses a broad range of research interests, and much of our research emerges through our key research clusters: Archaeology of Ireland and Atlantic Europe; Environmental Change; Geopolitics and Justice; Planning and Sustainability; Rural Studies;  the Palaeoenvironmental Research Unit and Irish Studies: historical, cultural and social development of modern and contemporary Ireland.
