The MA in Writing and The Galway Music Residency present a very special performance on Thursday 28th September at 7pm in the Aula Maxima, The Quadrangle, University of Galway.
During the 2016/17 academic year, the Galway Music Residency with the ConTempo Quartet worked with the students of the MA in Writing at University of Galway to visit old works, musical and literary, and to create the new. Thursday’s event will see ConTempo joined by past and present students of Creative Writing who will showcase the work that emerged from encounters with inspirational music, composers and performers.

This is the fourth year of the collaboration between the Creative Writing programmes at University of Galway, the Galway Music Residency, and ConTempo.
Supported by University of Galway, the Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils and GMIT, admission to this event is free, open to all and early arrival is recommended. The event duration will be approximately 70 minutes, with no interval.

To celebrate his recent national and international successes with his novel "Solar Bones", the Discipline of English and the School of Humanities, in cooperationwith the President’s Office, are hosting a public reception for Mike McCormack on Wednesday, 22 February, in the Aula Maxima, Quadrangle at 7pm.
Late last year, Mike was awarded the prestigious Goldsmiths Prize at the University of London for "Solar Bones", and it subsequently won the Eason Book Club Irish Novel of the Year and overall Irish Book of the Year at the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards.
Speakers at the reception will include the University President and Heads of English and Humanities. Also featuring on the evening will be former students of Mike’s on the MA in Writing and the BA with Creative Writing programmes who themselves have been enjoying recent successes in the writing and publishing world.
Readings from some of Mike’s previous works will culminate in a reading by the author himself from "Solar Bones".

The RECIRC project, led by Professor Marie-Louise Coolahan, has announced a major international conference to be held at the Moore Institute, University of Galway on 22-25 March 2017.
The conference will bring together scholars working on the reception of texts, the reputations of authors and individuals, and the circulation of people and things in the early modern world.

In February 2016, to mark the 400 year anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the EXPLORE-funded project ‘Shakespeare in Galway 2016’ mounted ‘Juliet’s Wall’ outside the College Bar and in the Hardiman Library. Inspired by the Casa di Giulietta in Verona, students anonymously recorded their thoughts about love, and Shakespeare.

The EXPLORE-funded SIG 2016 project is a partnership between University staff and students. The staff partners are Dr Lindsay A Reid, Dr Victoria Brownlee, and Dr Kate Harvey, and the student partners are Emer McHugh, Evan Bourke, Aidan Graham, Ciara Duggan, and Laura McGlinchey.
