Professional Development

We offer a range of different programmes, short-courses, micro-credentials and other forms of professional development. These span all aspects of teaching, learning, assessment, curricular design, supervision, and other domains of academic practice. Articulation into the programmes at different levels using qualifications and courses completed elsewhere is also possible via RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).

The Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education (PgCert: 30 ECTS) provides an overview of key concepts and is closely linked to practice. It is designed for anyone who is teaching, supporting student learning, and designing modules or courses. Based on developing reflective practice, it includes peer review of teaching, student feedback, and the production of a teaching portfolio. In order to successfully complete the course, participants need to be currently involved in teaching.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice (PgDip: PgCert + 30 ECTS) follows on from the PgCert and allows specialisation in a number of areas, or widening knowledge into other topics beyond teaching. A number of individual modules (10 ECTS) are available and the award requires successful completion of any three of these, added on to the PgCert.  The individual modules are also available on a 'standalone' basis as micro-credentials.

The MA in Academic Practice (PgDip + 30 ECTS) is based on refining knowledge and skills in research methods and applying these to an individual research project and dissertation.

Micro-credentials are standalone, individual modules (10 ECTS) which can be taken for interest, specialist skills development, and if desired can be 'stacked' towards the PgDip qualification.

CELT also supports supervision for research Masters and PhDs in relevant areas.
