Dr. Alma Clavin BA(Mod.) MSc PhD
Lecturer in Sustainability/Education for Sustainable Development
Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT)
I am a Geographer with a strong interest in learning and teaching. In early 2024 I began a role in the University of Galway as Lecturer in Sustainability/Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Prior to this I spent 5 years in UCD Geography working as part of the Cities, Governance and Sustainability team on community engaged climate action research. This included Mapping Green Dublin (EPA); Urban Grit (IRC); Place-based Just Transition (NESC); Repair Acts (Creative Ireland); Place Based Giving for Climate Action (Community Foundation Ireland).
With fifteen years’ experience lecturing in higher education in Ireland and the UK, I have developed expertise in transformative, place based and experiential learning. I have a strong interest in critical and public pedagogies, of forms, processes and sites of learning in the public sphere. I am particularly interested in developing new actor constellations – new interdisciplinary, collaborative ways of learning and researching together for a more just and sustainable present and future.
