1st Annual CDP-CDP Summer School, Online (Zoom)
Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd June 2021

The Collaborative Doctoral Programme in Chronic Disease Prevention (CDP-CDP) is a five-year collaboration between academic partners (NUI Galway, UCC and UCD), the HRB SPHeRE Doctoral Programme, and the Health Services Executive (HSE), funded by a Health Research Board (HRB). It focuses on prevention of chronic disease across the lifespan and across the spectrum from wellness to disease, using three of the most common chronic diseases in Ireland as the research focus (diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke). Prevention programmes are urgently needed to reduce burden on patients and health services. In Ireland, there is a national deficit in skills, leadership and capacity in the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based prevention. The Collaborative Doctoral Programme in Chronic Disease Prevention (CDP-CDP) addresses this deficit. A transdisciplinary consortium, including clinical therapies, health psychology, nursing, medicine, implementation science, and PPI, will deliver the CDP-CDP. The consortium includes national leaders and internationally recognised experts in diabetes, stroke and cardiovascular disease prevention. Graduates of the programme will be future national and international leaders in evidence-based chronic disease prevention research, research implementation, and policy development.

A core element of the CDP-CDP, the Summer School is an annual two-day expert-led event, delivering training in specialist prevention-relevant knowledge and competencies. The focus the 1st Annual Summer School is to highlight the national and international context for the CDP-CDP, with leading experts presenting on applied research projects, policy and practice initiatives, and integrated knowledge translation in chronic disease prevention. Please see the CDP-CDP Summer School 2021 schedule for full details.
