Jessica | 4th year Biopharma | Bristol Myers Squib

The 8-month internship I undertook was probably the most beneficial aspect of my undergraduate degree in terms of career progression. It gave me invaluable industry experience, where I developed strong communication and problem-solving skills and even earned my Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt. Most importantly, the internship helped me identify the aspects of the industry that interest me most while also allowing me to build valuable connections with professionals. As a result, I now feel much more confident in my ability to secure a job after graduation.

Jonathon Murphy | Energy Systems Engineering

My placement experience was invaluable. Personally, I had the opportunity to design Solar PV and BESS sites and visit others, which gave me a real appreciation for the scale of the work and the importance of renewable energy. Not only was I able to apply my college engineering learning in a practical setting, but I also gained significant insights into other aspects of the renewable industry, such as business and economics.

Lucy Collins | B.Comm Global Experience | St Jarlath’s Credit Union

The work placement programme was a highly beneficial element of the Global Commerce programme. My time as a Marketing Intern with St Jarlath’s Credit Union allowed me to gain insightful experience into the world or marketing, including areas such as social media marketing, digital marketing, and campaign design. It also allowed me to experience first-hand how a business in the financial services sector works. The professional and interpersonal skills gained from this experience will prove invaluable to me once I graduate and enter the working world. I look forward to developing these skills even further in the near future.

Rei Adedeji | Biomedical Engineering

"I tell everyone that will listen that my 8 months placement was hands down the best experience I had in the 5 years of my Engineering degree. After 3+ years of the undergrad, it's a fantastic way to recenter yourself and answer this nagging question you start to ask yourself as the semesters roll on and on: "Why am I doing this again? What is all this work for?". During placement, you see the impact of your education in your ability to understand and solve complex problems. Not only that but it teaches you new skills you could never learn in academia alone, I learned how to communicate with my team and leadership, I learned what it meant to be an effective clog in a well oiled machine, I learned the pride that comes with doing good work for an even better cause and I learned how to think about the end users at every step of a project. This reignited my love for engineering and truly affirmed that decision I made some 5 years ago filling out my CAO. I recently accepted a position at the company that I did my placement with, so you can even say it's the gift that keeps on giving."
