Maciej Stec

Biography & Research Interests

Maciej Stec is originally from Poland, however, he moved to Ireland in 2007 where he’s lived ever since. He received his Bachelors degree in ‘Mathematical Science’ with First Class Honours at University of Galway in 2024. His final year thesis focused on the ‘ringing effect’ in colliding finite elastic bodies.

Maciej is currently doing his PhD at the University of Galway with Dr Peter Corcoran. His studies focus on researching eye motion.

Research Activities

Maciej is currently researching micro-saccades, which are small eye movements of less than 2 degrees. Due to the sporadic and quick nature of these movements, regular 30 fps cameras are unable to detect them. His studies focus on using event cameras which create an image based on changes in temperature with a frequency of 2,000 Hz (2,000 fps) and thus are able to detect any subtle movements.

Maciej also has experience in data acquisitions, previously participating in gathering data for driving monitoring systems (DMS) and indoor home surveilance.
