Biography
Dr Sanja Bilić is the Project Manager of the ERC-funded BILQIS Project at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, and of the Centre for Law, Religion and Society (CLRS), both based within the School of Law, University of Galway.
She leads coordination across both initiatives, supporting research planning, reporting, communications, events, and strategic development. Her role also includes fostering partnerships and advancing the Centre’s funding and visibility goals.
Sanja holds a PhD in Women’s Studies from the University of York, where her research explored Muslim women’s religious identities in Bosnia and the UK. Before joining Galway, she directed and managed international projects focused on gender, religion, and civil society across academic, policy, and advocacy sectors.
Her work is grounded in interdisciplinary research and shaped by extensive experience in project delivery, from grant design and budgeting to stakeholder engagement and reporting. She is particularly interested in gendered experiences of legal and ethical authority, and the role of Muslim women’s voices in shaping justice and policy across diverse European contexts.
