University of Galway Staff:
Dr. Eoghan Clifford (Principal Investigator). Eoghan (Chartered Engineer) works as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering, at the University of Galway. His role as the Principal Investigator on this project includes overall project coordination and oversight of RTC performance analysis and data verification. He has led the design and installation of on-site research water and wastewater treatment (ranging in size from 5 – 750 PE) and associated monitoring systems in 10 countries. He has co-authored over 200 contributions including peer-reviewed. journal (> 80), conference publications/contributions (> 150), technical reports, and other conference or media contributions. He has 5 patents in the area of wastewater treatment.
Dr. Edelle Doherty (Project Manager). Edelle is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Galway. She is the overall project manager, health and safety-related issues in the project, site agreements and logistics issues, data management, oversight, reporting, and communications. She is a Chartered Engineer and a Certified Energy Manager. She has previously worked in the industry as a wastewater specialist designing WWTPs (400 PE to 60,000 PE). Edelle has a background in Energy Efficient Design projects both in the wastewater and hospital sectors. She worked as an Energy Manager for the HSE and project-managed projects worth over €1.2 m (co-funded by the SEAI).
Dr. Emmanuel Alepu Odey (Postdoctoral Fellow). Emmanuel is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Galway. His role on the project includes day-to-day project activities (technical, reporting & communications), data collection & analysis, laboratory analysis, and on-site RTC implementation. Emmanuel has more than 9 academic and research awards, including the Honorary Title of Excellent Graduating International Student Award, and the Outstanding International Student Award in three consecutive years. He has more than 8 years of experience in environmental science and engineering research with more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
VorTerch Water Solutions Staff:
Dr. Sean Mulligan: Sean is the founder and CEO at VorTech Water Solutions Ltd. Sean is currently responsible for the vision and management of the company's scientific, technological, research, and commercial operations along with communicating with customers and partners in relation to the company’s capabilities and product offerings. Sean's role on this project includes industry partner oversight and oversight on broader market implications.
Alan Carty: Alan is the lead product development engineer at VorTech Water Solutions Ltd. He is responsible for product development of existing and new technology, development of retrofit solutions, and visualisation whilst also liaising with fabricators and suppliers for the delivery and installation of VorTech’s products. His role on this project is in liaising with stakeholders regarding product life cycle costing.

Peter Leonard: Peter is the Technology Lead at VorTech Water Solutions Ltd where he manages the company’s Research & Development activities and is responsible for the design of the VorTech ECA control system and advanced process control and optimisation in wastewater treatment applications. He is also finalising his Ph.D. study at the University of Galway on novel control strategies for Intermittently Aerated Sequencing Batch Reactors for Wastewater Treatment. He is the industry partner coordinator/project manager of this project and the lead WP3 RTC control design & implementation with the University of Galway facilitating on-site activities and data collection.
