Student Accommodation Assistance Fund
The Student Accommodation Assistance fund is now open for applications. For the 2024/2025 academic year, funding is being provided to assist students from Traveller and Roma backgrounds and those with experience of the care system with the cost of accommodation, when living independently while attending third level education.
To be considered for student accommodation assistance, applicants must be members of one or more of the following groups:
- Traveller Community.
- Roma Community.
- Have experience of the care system between the ages of 16 and 18 and are not in receipt of an aftercare allowance.
The fund is open to both full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students who meet the eligibility requirements as outlined in the Frequently Asked Questions for Students. This funding is available for a wide range of accommodation types. Please see the FAQ for eligibility requirements and a full list of approved and excluded accommodation types.
Supports up to a maximum of €6,000 are available per student for the 2024/2025 academic year. Amounts will vary depending on the cost of the student’s accommodation and the amount received from the Dormant Account Funds.
You are required to provide proof of your recent rental costs as part of the application process. The below are acceptable.
- Your tenancy/license agreement that includes the rental costs per month.
- For those who do not have a tenancy or licence agreement, recent proof rent payments should be provided for example, a bank statement showing recent rental payments or a receipt of rent payment. If you have experience of the care system, you must submit the form provided in Appendix 1 of the Supplementary Guidelines showing that you are not in receipt of an aftercare allowance and or an aftercare grant.
- Students with care experience will also need to get this formsigned by a local TUSLA drop-in centre (see FAQfor more information). This requires manager approval so please request the document early so you will have your documentation on time.
