Staff Profiles

Muzhaffar is a PhD Candidate at the School of Computer Science, NUI Galway where they are investigating what the memes, selfies, GIFs and photos you post on Social Media say about the digital communities we create online. Their research is funded by the Science Foundation of Ireland under the CRT for Digitally-Enhanced Reality (d-real.ie) under the supervision of Dr Josephine Griffith (NUIG) and Dr Susan McKeever (TU Dublin).

They obtained an MSc in Software Engineering and Database Technologies from NUI Galway with first-class honours and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University. Their previous undergraduate and postgraduate research interests span multiple fields including experience in Multi-Physics Finite Element Analysis, Ergonomics of Beam Impedance Measurement Equipments, Signal Processing of Vector Network Analysers, COVID-19 Misinformation, Linguistics and Propagative Charaterisation of Tweets.

Muzhaffar's professional track record shows a passion for developing fledgling ideas to create novel propositions for everyday consumers such as halal speed-dating, Malaysia's first industry-wide consumer credit score, first-in-market data-sharing partnerships, and data-driven fraud monitoring.

In their free time, they enjoy collaborating on impact-driven social enterprises and drafting strategic plans for immature business ideas. Muzhaffar is also a passionate home-cook with inconsistent success, novice aquascaper and avid DIY enthusiast.
