Kaylem Feeney
Podiatrist (Orthopaedics)
I graduated with first class honours from the BSc (Hons) Podiatry in 2017 and immediately took up a position in a private podiatry practice in Galway City where I worked for 3 months. I subsequently acquired the post of Orthopaedic Podiatrist at the Bon Secours Hospital, Galway in September 2017 where I have worked since. Here, I work closely with Prof. Stephen Kearns, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the management of patients with lower limb orthopaedic issues. My main role involves the conservative management of patients with lower limb injuries with the hope of preventing the need for surgery where possible. This may involve treatments such as immobilisation, splinting, orthotic prescription, stretching/strengthening, injection therapy or shockwave therapy. I am also surgical assistant in theatre and have been involved in more than 1,000 orthopaedic surgeries to date.
In addition to his post at the Bon Secours Hospital, I began a part-time MSc in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery from Glasgow Caledonian University in January 2018 and am on course to complete the MSc in late 2019. I am also involved with the academic team at NUI Galway and give student tutorials where necessary during the academic term.
