Biography

Dr Claire Kerins is a senior postdoctoral researcher at the Health Promotion Research Centre, University of Galway. She also contributes to teaching on the MA in Health Promotion and the Medicine MB Programmes. She is a CORÚ registered dietitian, and a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute and the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration. Her research interests include food and nutrition, food environments, chronic disease prevention, policy implementation, implementation science and evidence synthesis. Claire is a recent graduate of the HRB SPHeRE programme in population, policy and health services research, and the Irish Implementation Science Training Institute. She was a Visiting Researcher at the National Centre of Implementation Science in Australia and the Hunter New England Population Health Service/Newcastle University (Newcastle, Australia) in 2020. Claire holds a PhD and MA in Health Promotion, Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies, and a Degree in Human Nutrition & Dietetics. She is an Honorary Clinical Fellow of the School of Medicine University of Galway and a Fellow of the National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC). Claire has previously worked as the Lead Specialist Dietitian at Croí the West of Ireland Cardiac & Stroke Foundation, where she provided operational management and strategic leadership for the nutrition and dietetic service. During this time, she contributed to the development and delivery of a diverse portfolio of CVD health projects and initiatives, including the award winning Croí MyAction programme, CLANN an obesity management programme and the Croí Healthy Ways Cookbook. She also contributed to the education portfolio of the NIPC based in the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre, both developing and delivering multiple training and education short courses and conferences. Claire was the Nutrition and Diet Module Lead and a member of the Programme Board for the MSc in Preventive Cardiology at the University of Galway.
