Biography

Sumana is a PhD candidate in the School of Computer Science at the University of Galway, Ireland. She works on multimodal sentiment analysis of social media data using machine learning. Her research is funded by the College of Science and Engineering, University of Galway, under the supervision of Dr Josephine Griffith and Karen Young, UoG.

She worked as a researcher in the Electronics Lab at Jadavpur University for almost two years and designed an approximate comparator using an approximate adder using CircuitMaker and simulated it using Verilog and Matlab.

Sumana joined the Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET), India, in 2006 as a lecturer in the Department of information technology. She was promoted as a senior lecturer in 2010 in the same institute through the Carrier Advancement Scheme (CAS) and re-designated as an assistant professor as per AICTE rules in India. She supervised undergraduate students on their major research projects. She worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the School of Computer Science at UoG and tutored a group of students to strengthen their coding in the programming languages C, Java, Python, and SQL and graded assignments. Additionally, she worked as an instructor for Youth Academy Galway to teach artificial intelligence (AI) using Python.  

She is passionate about learning new technologies and staying up to date with new technology and research. She is enjoining singing, walking to be fit and active, and being connected with nature.

As a person, she is industrious, collaborative, pessimistic, trustworthy, and reliable.
