Biography

Daniel holds a BA (economics and History), a Masters degree in Economic Science (International Finance) and a Ph.D. in economics. His research interests are macroeconomics, maritime economics, finance, and economic history. Daniel's PhD research explored the relationship between historical Irish exchange rates, prices, credit conditions and international trade flows. The underlying focus of this work was a long run examination of the integration of Irish commodity and financial markets, the connections between the financial economy and the real economy and the effects of structural change in exchange rate regimes and economic crises. Daniel is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Whitaker Institute (SEMRU). His research explores how the maritime transport industry can support the growth of the Irish economy.

Daniel has lectured on a range of financial and macroeconomics courses. These include financial economics, financial management, financial (time series) econometrics, international economics and macroeconomics. Prior to commencing his PhD, he worked as a researcher at GDSI and as a financial analyst for Deutsche Bank.
