The National PPI Festival is a unique event organised by the PPI Ignite Network to celebrate innovation and progress in Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) across Ireland.  Hosted annually in October, the Festival sees PPI contributors, Higher Education Institutions, charity and community organisations, and research groups come together to host events highlighting PPI excellence and innovation. The inaugural National PPI Festival was hosted in 2022 and co-ordinated by the PPI Ignite Network @ University of Galway.

During the launch event, President of University of Galway Cíaran Ó hÓgartaigh stated, “It is fitting that the new focus of public and patient involvement in research is being promoted so passionately by University of Galway and our counterparts across the sector. We place significant emphasis on work for the public good and an initiative of this nature is a powerful example of the role that it can play. It also speaks to the values of our University – respect; openness; excellence; sustainability and I wish everyone who is taking part every success as this new approach to research takes hold.”

The PPI Ignite Network @ University of Galway hosted a series of events which focused on exploring new ways of thinking about PPI, spreading the word of involvement to researchers old and new, while learning from their perspectives, and building connections within the university for future collaboration.
