The eGovernance Unit (eGov) at the Data Science Institute of the University of Galway focuses on innovative applications of emerging technologies to data engineering and governance and decision-making. eGov unit is funded by Science Foundation Ireland through SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, European Commission programmes (Interreg, Horizon), Health Research Board, industry grants (National Geographic) and individual SFI grants and collaborations (Fidelity Investments).

Our research focuses on innovative data integration and processing pipelines, data analytics and visualisation, AI-chatbots, AI-GIS, next-gen XR (AR/VR), serious communication and digital public service innovation. The application areas include Electronic Government, National Security, Digital Health and Financial Industry. Additionally, our unit delivers training courses in the domain of Open Data, Linked Data, Data Analytics and Data Visualisation to different government departments.
