The accelerating pace of AI development and the growing role of data‑driven innovation demand a dedicated research unit that tackles these critical challenges head‑on. While AI agents can yield short‑term productivity boosts, the greatest gains arise from harnessing human and machine strengths together – a concept known as collaborative intelligence. This sociotechnical approach blends human creativity, judgment, and empathy with AI’s speed, accuracy, and massive data‑processing capacity to elevate work outcomes.
The Collaboration Intelligence unit draws on research from Artificial Intelligence, Computer‑Supported Cooperative Work, and Information Systems to explore how AI can be seamlessly woven into collaborative decision‑making and everyday work practices. Our projects investigate the design, deployment, and governance of AI tools within existing business processes, organizational structures, policy‑making, and industrial automation. Particular attention is paid to AI’s influence on corporate culture, workflow, and employee roles. Beyond technical feasibility, our unit prioritizes socially and organizationally acceptable human‑AI collaboration systems. It examines communication patterns, coordination mechanisms, trust dynamics, and power balances in mixed‑human–machine teams. By combining rigorous technical research with a deep understanding of human factors, the unit delivers practical frameworks that help organizations unlock the full potential of collaborative intelligence while maintaining a healthy and equitable workplace while fostering innovation and supporting sustainable growth
