International Foundation Business Programme
The International Foundation Business Programme caters specifically for the academic and/or English needs of students who do not meet the academic requirement to directly enter undergraduate degree programmes and/or English requirements for their chosen degree.
Upon completion of this level 6 foundation programme students will have the opportunity to progress onto UG programmes in Shannon College of Hotel Management, University of Galway and other institutions in Ireland and worldwide. A foundation programme is a component part of the entry requirements for many international students who wish to pursue their UG studies in Ireland. Students who choose to complete their foundation programme through an Irish University have the great advantage of studying through English, developing a strong understanding of the Irish culture and adapting to the teaching style used in Irish Institutions. This will ensure they are fully prepared to commence their chosen Degree programme.

Vaness Nguyen Ngoc Thanh | Vietnam - Foundation Programme
For me, one year studying Foundation was one of the most memorable years. During the course, with the enthusiastic help of teachers, my English has improved a lot, as well as gaining more basic knowledge about Business, Accounting and Economics. In addition, I discovered more about the Irish culture through the Intercultural Communication and I developed and understood myself better through the Personal Development classes. As well as the knowledge that I have gained, I also have new friends from different countries who accompanied me throughout the course. We got to know each other's cultures, attended school festivals, and did homework together. It can be said that Shannon College has brought me a new family full of warmth and laughter.in Connect with Vaness
Mariia Uliankina | Ukraine - Foundation Programme
Foundation Program was a great combination of English and Business subjects that provide international students with the necessary skills for future progress. Studying on this program gave me an insight into the higher education system in Ireland as this program involved the same stages that undergraduate students go through such as lecture structure, projects, and exams. In addition to this, this course has given me the prospect of improving my English considerably since the course included a variety of academic writings, research projects, and oral presentations. Not only I was able to strengthen my English through these assignments, but I also learned many practical skills such as giving presentations, taking part in interviews, and creating surveys. It is noteworthy to mention that all the lecturers were helpful and friendly and went above and beyond.in Connect with Mariia
Maria Eduarda Pacheco Fogaça | International Business Foundation Student 2024
Oi, my name is Maria Eduarda Pacheco Fogaça and my name looks like a whole phrase because I am Brazilian. I am part of the international foundation programme, an introduction year for international students attending the University of Galway. The point is to give international students a year to study English and other subjects that might be missing in their previous education before proceeding to their course, in my case creative writing. I was very excited when I received the news that as a scholarship recipient, I would be included in the International Student Ambassador’s panel because before coming to Ireland I would spend most of my free time looking for testimonials of students coming from a background similar to mine. I see it as an opportunity to share my story and perhaps encourage someone to board into this journey. Se você tá com medo, vai com medo mesmo!in Connect with Maria Eduarda
