Accounting Exemptions
Shannon College graduates of the BBS and BComm Degrees are eligible to receive exemptions from ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) , CIMA ( Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and CPA ( The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland )
The exemptions received by Shannon College students are extremely valuable should they decide to pursue further studies in discipline of Accounting. CIMA Exemptions
CIMA ( Chartered Management Accounting Qualifications ) award students of the Shannon College of Hotel Management BBS programme a full exemption at certificate and operational level. This leaves two levels for students to complete their CIMA qualification exams.
The exemptions received are as follows:
CIMA Certificate Level:
C01 Fundamental of Management Accounting
C02 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
C03 Fundamentals of Business Mathematics
C04 Fundamentals of Business Economics
C05 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate and Business Law
CIMA Operational Level:
E1 Organisational Management
P1 Management Accounting
F1 Financial Reporting and Taxation

ACCA Exemptions
Shannon College graduates of the BBS and BComm from 2010 onwards will be eligible to receive exemptions from ACCA exams. The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a global body for certified accountants. The ACCA award accounting qualifications which are recognised around the world. Graduates of the BBS are eligible to receive up to four ACCA exemptions and graduates of the BComm are eligible to receive up to seven ACCA exemptions. See details below. For students considering an accounting career, the ACCA exemptions are valuable and much sought after. By choosing the correct subjects, students at Shannon College are well on their way to becoming a certified accountant in the future.
BBS Exemptions
Students of the Bachelor of Business Studies in International Hotel Management (BBS) who graduate from Shannon College can receive exemptions for up to four ACCA papers;
Accountant in Business Exemption – upon completion
Management Accounting Exemption – upon completion of Introduction to Management Accounting and Management Accounting 1
Performance Management Exemption – upon completion of Management Accounting 1 plus Performance Management & Cost Control
Financial Management Exemption – upon completion of Business Finance.
BComm Exemptions
Students of the BComm (Bachelor of Commerce and NUI Diploma in International Hotel Management) who graduate from Shannon College and NUI Galway can receive up to seven exemptions from the ACCA;
Year 1 – Year 3 (from Studying at Shannon College):
Accountant in Business Exemption – upon completion
Management Accounting Exemption – upon completion
Financial Management Exemption – upon completion
Year 4 (from studying at NUI Galway):
Financial Accounting Exemption – on the basis of taking accredited modules
Performance Management Exemption – on the basis of taking accredited modules
Taxation Exemption – on the basis of taking accredited modules
Financial Reporting Exemption – on the basis of taking accredited modules
