Biography

Ivan Kenny PhD is a lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Studies at the University of Galway. His research interests are broadly focused on mid-twentieth century Mexican cultural production with a particular emphasis on gender and spatiality in the works of Luis Buñuel and Juan Rulfo. Other research interests encompass spatiality in Julio Cortázar's short fiction. He has published articles in the Hispanic Research Journal, the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies and the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies.

Research Interests

My research interests are broadly focused on mid-twentieth century Mexican cultural production with a particular emphasis on spatiality in the works of Luis Buñuel and Juan Rulfo. I am also interested in the spatial dimension of Julio Cortázar's short fiction.

Teaching Interests

I lecture in the areas of Hispanic Cultural Studies (Cinema & Literature), Translation Studies and Spanish language. My teaching approach is research-led, student-centered, with a strong emphasis on blended learning. I encourage students to think critically and independently. I design and deliver content in all years of the undergraduate programme in Spanish. I also contribute to the MA in Translation. I am currently the Coordinator of First Year Spanish.
