Clíona McCarthy |   Shop Manager and Events Lead Le Choux London United Kingdom

Choosing to study at Shannon College is easily one of the best decisions I’ve made professionally as well as personally. Shannon allowed me to explore many different areas of the industry through lectures, practical classes, and industry placements. Having access to such a wide range of subjects combined with two International placements allowed me to gain a variety of essential skills and helped me decide which area’s I enjoyed the most. Since graduating, I decided to further pursue French pâtisserie and moved to Paris in 2021 to train at École Ducasse. I worked for some time at Claridge’s Hotel as a Commis Pastry Chef and have since changed path slightly to become store manager and events lead at Le Choux Patisserie London. I am very grateful for the opportunities that Shannon has made possible for me. I cherish all the memories I have from my time at Shannon and the lifelong friendships I have gained. It was such a unique and rewarding college experience for me which I have the incredible staff and my fellow classmates to thank for. I would highly recommend this course to anyone that is considering a career in this industry

I cannot recommend highly enough the benefits of doing the MSc in Business and Hospitality through Shannon College of Hotel Management and NUI Galway. The course is nicely balanced and expertly delivered by senior academic lectures and external industry practitioners, this blend offers a rich learning experience. The diverse mix of masters students further enriches the learning with ample time given to sharing experiences and personal insights. This course is very doable whilst working full time.

“The curriculum also allows you to develop a certain skill set which is a prerequisite to be successful within the business and hospitality industry, ranging from personality development, work ethic, interpersonal and soft skills as well as language development. The BComm Degree allowed me to focus on a business discipline during my final year where I spent on The University of Galway main campus. Students have the option to focus on disciplines in various fields such as Marketing, Human Resource Management, Information Technology, Accounting and Economics.”

Having always had a strong interest in business and languages I chose to pursue a career in Hospitality which perfectly intersected my subject interests and personality type. I chose to enroll for the BComm in International Hotel Management for the opportunities it afforded me to specialize in areas like marketing and human resource management while being able to travel the world. I spent my fourth year based on the campus of University Galway where I specialized in Human Resource Management while taking on a number of Marketing Modules including web and interactive media design, media & marketing communications & brand management to name but a few.
