Sexual Counselling Guidelines

CHARMS researchers have co-authored recent guidelines from the American Heart Association (click here) and the European Society of Cardiology (click here)on sexual counselling for individuals with cardiovascular disease and their partners. These recommend that sexual counselling should form part of cardiac rehabilitation, that all healthcare providers in cardiac rehabilitation should be trained in sexual counselling in cardiovascular disease and that during sexual counselling, healthcare providers should: (a) assess all patients for sexual concerns, (b) provide information and guidance about resuming sexual activity after a cardiac event and (c) assist patients with dealing with anxiety related to sexual concerns.
