Research
At the University of Galway, the Discipline of Pathology prioritises advances in clinical, translational and fundamental research in cancer and other chronic diseases through gold standard and innovative techniques for histopathological and pathological analysis of disease benefiting patients.
Key Research Areas/Themes
Research at the Discipline of Pathology is supported through innovative research projects including:
- Enterprise Ireland funded NLIFT IMAN (€11.9 milliion) which focuses on enhancing cellular therapy effectiveness in cancer treatment
- Horizon Europe funded NO-CANCER-NET (€2.8 million), a MSCA doctoral network focused on developing nitric oxide focused treatment strategies for triple negative breast cancer
- Development of spatial pathology for the diagnosis and target identification in cancers of unmet need with the acquisition of the Miltenyi MACSima spatial imager
Cellular therapy effects through the EI funded NLIFT IMAN research project, 11.9 million euros overall funding.
Research Environment & Structures
Engaged with the Institute for Clinical Trials to support a first in human clinical trial in a novel cellular therapy for solid tumours.
Researchers at the Discipline of Pathology actively engaged in research with:
- The Institute for Clinical Trials at the University of Galway to support a first in human clinical trial in a novel cellular therapy for solid tumours
- The Advanced Therapies and Cancers Group and the Clinical Research and Development Office at the University of Galway to support the multicentre Movember funded Irish Prostate Cancer Outcomes Research study for men undergoing diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer
- The Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices to develop new innovative diagnostic and therapeutic devices for the treatment of cancer
