University of Galway has launched the first Civic Engagement Scholarship across Irish Higher Education, cementing the University’s position as the centre for excellence in engaging students in societal change, social impact and building civic skills.  

Directed at new entry undergraduate students, the scholarship is valued at €1500 per academic year for the duration of their degree programme and is open to all.

The aim of the scholarship is to contribute to building global citizenship skills in enabling student leaders to take on community action at Ireland’s leading campus for civic engagement.  

Along with financial support, the successful candidate will also avail of:

• Training and hands-on skills development workshops

• Access to specialized conferences and networking

• Hands on internship experience with the ALIVE Volunteering programme

• Insight across a wide range of nonprofit, humanitarian and social justice programmes

Just as there are academic, cultural and performing, sport scholarships recognising students commitment to their passion we feel that volunteering and community engagement demonstrates dedication for social change and impact.

New entrants that have participated in civic programmes such as Gaisce, Young Social Innovators, the Duke of Edinburgh Award will be particularly interested.

Scholarship Detail
• A successful applicant will be awarded €1500 per academic year for the duration of the undergraduate degree programme.
• There are a set criteria to maintain the award into a subsequent academic year.
