This website was set up by Terry in 2013, under the web address www.terrencemcdonough.ie. Sadly, however, on September 7th 2021 Terry passed away and the website is now a repository for his published work in both academic and popular forums. Terry was primarily interested in Marxist approaches to stages in capitalist history, working in the context of the Social Structure of Accumulation (SSA) approach. He has also done work on Irish history and contemporary Irish issues. He had an ongoing interest in economics education for labour and community groups.
Terry had a PhD in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and was Professor Emeritus of Economics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Before joining NUI Galway in 1995, other appointments were at the Institute for Industry Studies, New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, at Canisius College, Buffalo, and at Dublin City University. Terry was a founder of NUI Galway's Master's Degree in Public Advocacy and Activism and the Irish Centre for Histories of Labour and Class (ICHLC) in 2013.
Terry's Memorial Service was organised by the Irish Centre for the Histories of Labour & Class (ICHLC), NUIG and held online on February 17th, 2022. The Memorial booklet and the recording of the Memorial Service, edited by Cian McMahon, are available online at https://ichlc.wordpress.com/2022/03/07/for-people-and-planet-remembering-terry-mcdonough/. The recording is also available on Youtube at https://youtu.be/ATW9oG8z7d0, and the booklet here.
It is our hope that his example will continue to inspire future generations in the pursuit of a better, fairer, greener and healthier world system.
