Peter J. Carr
Dr. Peter Carr is a distinguished researcher, educator and clinician who is recognised as a leading expert in vascular access and infusion therapy. He leads a Vascular Access and Infusion Therapy Research team dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving patient outcomes for hospitalised patients. Dr. Carr has made significant contributions to the scientific field, international clinical guidelines and educational initiatives in vascular access, collaborating with medical device industries to enhance patient care. Additionally, he is an integral member of the AVATAR group, a renowned research alliance focused on high quality vascular access.

In our lab, we have access to two state-of-the-art simulation laboratories equipped with high-resolution camera and audio technology, as well as wearable technology for various research applications. We have access to high quality handheld and portable ultrasound and vessel locating technology for medical studies. Our institution provides access to advanced equipment for cancer research and clinical trials. Collaborative work with researchers like Prof Leo Quinlan and Prof Derek O'Keeffe enhances our research capabilities. Additionally, the university houses the CORRIB Core Lab, which focuses on improving outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. The Health Research Board Clinical Research Facility, clinical trials institute and trials accelerator hub on the grounds of University Hospital Galway further supports our research activity.
General area of research: Vascular Access Device research, intravenous technology research, infusion therapy, mechanism of device failure and clinical trials.
Dr. Carr holds a RN, PhD, MMedSc (Health Informatics), BSc, HDip in Emergency Care and Dip in HE Nursing.
