Alice Shaughnessy is an engineer, with experience spanning R&D prototyping, software and mechatronics, scientific research and clinical trial operations. She holds a BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Galway, Ireland. An entrepreneur and innovator, Alice founded and led multiple tech start-up ventures, including Mirr, an award‑winning startup that created smart‑mirror devices for beauty and self‑care, and Reinventing the Wheel, which developed a multi‑plane wheel system driven by changing magnetic fields.
Alice's achievements have been recognised with a series of national and international STEM and entrepreneurship awards, including "30 under 30" in Irish technology and business, as well as accolades from SFI, Analog Devices, Intel, Regeneron & Enterprise Ireland. She was a key early stage hire at Luminate Medical and saw multiple devices from concept to clinical implementation. Her role spanned R&D and clinical trials, from software development to hands-on delivery of therapies to oncology patients at hospitals worldwide. She was also contracted to develop mechatronic prototypes for Johnson & Johnson, and has participated in various entrepreneurial programmes. Focused on translating early‑stage engineering concepts into real clinical and commercial impact, Alice is looking forward to finding the next unmet clinical need with Bioinnovate.
