Biography

Niamh holds a B.Sc in Physics with Medical Physics, M.Sc in research (Experimental Physics) and PhD in optical design from the University of Galway.
Her PhD focused on the area of novel lens design for commercial imaging, which was funded through the SFI strategic partnership and was partially funded by FotoNation, Parkmore, Galway. Following her graduation, she took up the position of lead optical engineer at Mbryonics. During her time working in the New Space industry, she designed and developed the baseline
products for the ESA funded freeform optical payload with supporting optical metrology, and optical ground station support equipment (OGSE).
Niamh joined the Physics academic staff in the School of Natural Sciences in September 2023. Her research is carried out with the Applied Optics Group and the Centre for Astronomy
She currently serves as an Assistant Editor for Applied Optics in the areas of optical design and optical metrology.

Research Interests

Current research interests include:
  • Aberration theory,
  • Optical design,
  • Optical metrology and
  • Astronomical instrumentation.
