Biography

Dr. Nazre Batool is a permanent Lecturer (Above the Bar)/ Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Galway. Dr. Batool has substantial academic and industry research experience in image and sensor data analysis for applications in autonomous driving, medical imaging, and face analysis. She has collaborated with several hospitals and industries worldwide including Malaysia, France, Sweden, and Germany. Before joining the University of Galway, she was a Senior Engineer at the Autonomous Transport Solutions R&D department of Scania AB, Sweden, where she contributed towards the 3D scene perception software for Scania¿s autonomous trucks & buses. As an industry researcher, she also collaborated with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology within a 4 years' joint industry-academia research project funded by the Swedish government's Vinnova research grant.

Dr. Batool is a PhD Fulbright scholar. She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA (2014) with a 5-year Fulbright scholarship. She was a postdoctoral researcher at Inria Sophia-Antipolis, France, after receiving the INRIA-DPE postdoc fellowship. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Linköping University, Sweden and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, where she collaborated closely with the hospitals. She received her M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University Technology Petronas, Malaysia and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, Pakistan.

Dr. Batool is a Senior Member of IEEE, IEEE Signal Processing Society and IEEE Women in Engineering. She has served as IEEE Signal Processing Society Sweden chapter chair for two years. She is a recipient of 2016 IEEE R8 Clementina Saduwa Award for her note-worthy achievements in engineering and support of women.

Dr. Batool's research interests include computer vision, image processing, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and self-supervised machine learning with applications in autonomous systems, robotics and healthcare.
