Biography

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC-funded BILQIS (Building Conceptual and Methodological Expertise for the Study of Gender, Agency, and Authority in Islam) project at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, University of Galway. Before joining BILQIS, I was a postdoctoral researcher for the SALAAM project at the University of Limerick and a teaching fellow at the Near and Middle Eastern Studies Department of Trinity College Dublin. I was awarded my PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester in 2023. My PhD project, fully funded by the University of Manchester, investigated the gendered biopolitics of assisted reproductive technologies, particularly egg donation, in Iran. I am the joint-winner of the BRISMES 2024 Leigh Douglas Memorial Prize for the best PhD dissertation on a Middle Eastern topic. I hold two master's degrees in Gender Studies (Central European University) and Communications Studies (Free University of Brussels) and two undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Communications Studies from the University of Tehran. My areas of expertise are in feminist theory, legal sociology, sociology of gender and sexuality, and qualitative methodologies.
