Assoc. Prof. Bryan McCabe

Assoc. Prof. Bryan McCabe graduated in 1997 with a first class Honours Degree (and Gold Medal) in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin (TCD). In 2002, he completed his PhD entitled "Experimental investigations of driven pile group behaviour in Belfast soft clay", also at TCD, supervised by Prof. Barry Lehane. 

Bryan joined the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Galway in 2001. He served as Head of Civil Engineering for 3 years (Jul 2014 - August 2017) and was promoted to Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in October 2017. He received a President's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2012 and a College of Science and Engineering Award for Teaching Excellence in 2023.

Bryan's current research interests include piled foundations, ground improvement, pipe-jacking/microtunnelling and soft soil engineering. He has supervised 15 research students (between PhD and MEngSc) to completion, is currently supervising 3 PhD students, and has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings (see Google Scholar profile, ResearchGate profile). 

He is also a Chartered Engineer (2006) and Fellow (2014) of Engineers Ireland.
