School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures
Welcome to the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures
Fáilte, Croeso, Bienvenue, Benvenuto, Bienvenido, Salvete, Willkommen, WELCOME.
The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures contains six disciplines, Classics, French, Gaeilge, German, Italian and Spanish, and also houses the subjects Celtic Civilisation and Old and Middle Irish and a degree programme in Global Languages.
We also offer modules in Chinese, and the combination of languages offered by our School provides an exciting range of possibilities for study extending from eight-century Ireland to modern Irish literature, from the ancient classical world to the globalized world of our present, stretching from Europe to Latin America and from Francophone North Africa to China. The language and culture modules we offer equip graduates with excellent linguistic, intercultural and critical thinking skills, giving them a distinct edge in a competitive employment market. Through their study of languages, they will have a capacity to understand the world differently and to inhabit it as a global citizen.
International Students
Our programmes attract students from all over the world including the USA, Brazil, China, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Spain. We also send large numbers of students to Europe, Canada, the USA and South America every year on student exchanges or work placements.
