Biography

Liam Alex Heffron is an award-winning entrepreneur, actor and historian. He published No Revolution - Igniting war in North Mayo, 1917-1923, (Mayo County Library, 2018) based on his MA thesis and is the founding director of ANSEO.ie. This unique heritage project is creating a digital archive of all national school records, with crowd-sourced volunteers cataloging, imaging and tagging each record page and document.  

His PhD is titled The revolutionary intersection of land hunger, social justice impulse, and memory in the rural west of Ireland, 1918-1923, at the Department of History, National University of Ireland, Galway. Research interests include the History of Geography, History of History and Cultural History with particular focus on utilising Oral History, and History from Below to investigate the Irish Revolution and its' antecedents.

Providing heritage advice and project management to the community council in their plans of development heritage sites in central North Mayo, most notably in their development with Coillte, of the Blanemore Forest Walk in North Mayo. This archaeological walk through a commercial conifer forest features megalithic tombs and bronze-age standing stones, stone rows and pre-bogs walls - all part of the 6,000 year old extensive neolithic farming settlement in the North West of which the nearby Ceide Fields is the most renowned example. www.blanemoreforest.com
