Biography

Wellington is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Business and Economics, NUI Galway.
He is an agricultural and development economist and his research explore topics around the economics of agricultural technology adoption, agricultural policy, agricultural productivity and economics of animal welfare. His current research focuses on addressing problems arising from the dairy sector expansion in Ireland.

Wellington holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria during which he spent a full year at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resources Economics (AFRE) at Michigan State University, USA. He also holds a Master’s degree in Agriculture and Rural Development from the University of East Anglia, UK and a Bachelor's degree (First Class) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. 

Before joining the Economics Discipline at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), he worked briefly with a World Bank-funded Community and Social Development Project in Nigeria. He also worked with a development management training organization in Nigeria where he was a program manager for almost two years providing consultancy and capacity building services across institutions in Nigeria. He completed a research study on “Employment Generation along Beef Value Chain in Nigeria” based on a research grant from the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Kenya.

Research Interests

Wellington's current research interests include topics around Agricultural Technology Adoption, Agricultural Policy, Development Economics, Animal Welfare Economics and Non-market Valuation (Contingent Valuation Method, Choice Experiments etc)
