Before joining the National University of Ireland Galway as a postdoctoral researcher in March 2020, he served as head of research and engineering in budding technological venture and as well he worked with startups in a head of analytics role. In his long trail of experience, he worked in many directions of research and development and Natural Language Processing and grounding, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Big data practice, Data Engineering as well in the Internet of things would be few notable to mention. During his rise as a research lead, he conducted lecture and presentation sessions time to time in the corporate environment in eminent research and technical topics. His formal teaching experience dates back to his PhD and MS curriculum in the Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA while he has started with Elementary Statistics, Computers and Applications and then taught Computer Programming Principles, Data Structures and Operating Systems. The last two mentioned courses were attended by bachelors as well masters students; designing the course materials, assignments, exams and projects to deliver lectures, designing assignments and exams as well as projects and grade them accordingly were his responsibility. During that time he also received the award of ‘Best Teaching’ from the Department of Computer Science in Georgia State University as well as Best Research’ award and prestigious 2011 Student Leader of the Year award from Georgia State University.

Dr. Karmakar has a long history of research experience in multimodal data science. He has served more than fifteen conference sessions in the leading research conferences over the years and ICDM, WI/IAT would be a couple to mention amongst them.
