Biography

Niall was born in Dublin and holds a BA from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from the European University Institute, Florence

Research Interests

The social and cultural history of Ireland and Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with an emphasis on literacy and education, the history of the book in Ireland, popular printing and reading, language shift and language change. My current book project concerns the comparative printing and reading history of the four principal Celtic languages (Irish, Scottish Gaelic, Welsh and Breton), 1700-1900.
