Biography

Michelle Queally is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at NUI Galway. She lectures on economics and health economics at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  Her research interests include obesity economics, complex public health intervention design and evaluation, clinical trials, medical device economics and also public patient involvement (PPI) in health economics research. Michelle is the appointed PPI catalyst within the economics department at NUI Galway. Her work to date has involved the application of discrete choice experiments, systematic reviews, qualitative evidence synthesis and economic evaluation techniques to explore and inform a wide range of health policy questions.

Prior to joining the Discipline of Economics, Michelle worked with CÚRAM, a Science Foundation Ireland centre for medical devices. Her work here focused on the health economics of medical devices and clinical trial participation research. Previous to this role Michelle was awarded the Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement Postdoctoral Fellowship, where she worked within a large international multidisciplinary team to design, implement and evaluate an intervention to prevent childhood obesity, leading on the health economic components. Previous to this, Michelle worked as Postdoctoral Researcher with Safefood where her work focused on examining the costs of obesity in adults and children.

Michelle was a recipient of the Irish Research Council Scholarship, the Hardiman Scholarship and the Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement Fellowship. Michelle was a Visiting Scholar at Cornell University, New York, 2016.
