Our Professional Partners

Here at University of Galway, we prepare our graduates to enter the workplace as professionals and join the bodies that represent those professions. We also work closely with a range of professional bodies to ensure that we are up-to-date in the courses we deliver so that they meet the needs of the marketplace.

University of Galway is committed to instigating and nurturing business and research partnerships through a wide range of services and facilities. We recognise academic excellence whilst also operating in a business capacity to continuously develop the services it offers to students, staff, business and the local community. As an institution of enterprise, research and learning, we foster strategic global engagement through partnerships, research networks, and other collaborative activities between University of Galway and partners around the world.

We strive to work in tandem with professional bodies to maintain the high standards they require of their members for accreditation. In a constantly changing work environment it is vital to engage continuous professional development to keep one’s skills up to date. Many of the courses we deliver already meet the CPD needs of national and international accrediting professional organisations.

Accreditation

We deliver different kinds of CPD modules, those that are credit-bearing i.e. they carry European Credit Transfer System credits under the QQI framework as well as informal training that meet the CPD needs of professional bodies. Examples of courses and modules in University of Galway that are accredited by professional bodies for the purposes of meeting CPD needs are:

MSc in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety is the only course of its kind in Ireland to be recognised by: the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety, the British Occupational Hygiene Society and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

Specialist Diploma in Lean and Quality Systems which is recognised by Engineers Ireland.

If your professional body wishes to recognise one of our modules or our courses please contact us.

If you wish to collaborate with University of Galway but do not wish to go through the accreditation process we are happy to develop an ‘Affiliation’ relationship. This is a way for professional bodies to simply recognise and endorse existing modules that we deliver instead of creating bespoke modules specifically for your members. The advantage of this is that there is no content development process or accreditation process. Your members would join students from other professional bodies or those studying on courses with multiple modules.
