NU625 Teaching Effectively

This module has been developed by the education team at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at NUI Galway. This is an interactive module that aims to provide a theoretical and practical exposure at helping the learner to begin teaching. When we talk about teaching, this applies to teaching learners, patients/clients or their families.
Application deadline is the 15th of July.

Topics to be explored include: theories of learning, writing a personal teaching philosophy, planning a teaching session and writing up a lesson plan, writing learning outcomes and learning about various teaching strategies. The module is delivered using blended learning including (1.5 days workshops) and is delivered over 12 weeks.  The module is comprised of four units:

Unit 1: Learning theories 
Unit 2: Getting ready to teach 
Unit 3: Teaching strategies 
Unit 4: Experimental learning and reflective practice

Target Market 
This module is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from healthcare professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, MHN’s, RGN’S, practice nurses, public health nurses, RNID’s, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists)  in acute, care of the older person, rehabilitation, continued care and community services.

Prerequisite

• Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals currently working in Irish primary care settings.
• Have an opportunity to teach in their current practice.

To meet the module learning outcomes you must undertake a minimum of 10 hours of teaching.
