BS1169 Manufacturing Technology
Manufacturing technology provides the means for society to manufacture/ supply products to meet the needs of modern society. Manufacturing technology in this module covers:
• Engineering materials including metals, ceramics, polymers and composite materials.
• Manufacturing processes, both traditional and recently developed.
• Electronic manufacturing technologies.

Manufacturing companies have to keep up with best practices to meet the demands of the market place. These demands are getting harder to meet for two reasons:
- Products have a shorter life cycle.
- Customers are demanding higher quality.
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
- Identify the fundamental principles of manufacturing technology.
- Identify the materials used in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, production systems and trends in manufacturing.
- Explain the nature of materials, mechanical and physical properties and the use of dimensions, tolerances and surfaces.
- Apply ethics, respect and responsibility in the manufacturing of products for customer use.
Evaluate how manufacturing meets the environmental demands of today’s market place.
